The Not-So-Fun Part of Working in a Nonprofit is:

...you find out that you lost funding for your program :*(.

Sad, considering that in the end it's the kids that suffer...

Looks like it's back to the drawing board.

The least fun part of working for a non-profit is fining out you lost funding for your job. Being laid off is never a good thing.

Aww, thanks guys for making this sick girl's weekend.

    agk:
Thanks for the sad face. Not so much for the job, it's just sad that good programs can't continue to exist for kids that need them.

    mediocre blogger:
True, being laid off is never a good thing (been there before). Luckily my fiscal year isn't over until the end of June so there's time.

    brimful:
Thanks for your wishes from Spain. I'm gonna be fine, I've been here before a couple of other times and it's always been for the better. Hope you're having a blast in Spain!

    ganesh:
Yeah, I'm totally looking at this like a new opportunity. I've been getting bored at the job for the past couple of months so in a way this is a blessing (just wish that they (the city of SF) continued funding so that maybe someone else can spearhead the program). There are soo many new ideas brewing already: an extended trip to Europe, a possible move back to NYC (?), and, timely enough, a job interview lined up here in SF at an org I've been dying to work at. Let's see...

So sorry to hear that. I can definitely relate. The non-profit advocacy projects that have been dearest to me have always had unstable funding sources. Although I know that convictions don't pay bills, I think they make for a clarity of vision about what is worth doing in this world...and such vision is ultimately rewarded (even if one takes some serious knocks in the process). Hang in there.

Thanks so much for thinking of me. Looking forward to your e-mail. Hope you're feeling better. :-)

    blogless:
Thanks for saying that. Sometimes you do forget if doing all this is worth it and it ultimately is. Let's hope that something's better on the horizon (especially with this job interview). *fingers crossed*

    emo masochist tang:
Yep, it looks like it. But hey, I might be able to join you for the next pirate party then. Aargh!

ugh, the life of a non-profiteer! i hear you on this. the reason for my move to nyc was due to the npo funding issues. it sucks, but things like this always open up another chapter, right?

let me know how i can help too! seriously.
