Williamsburg Hipster Seeks Prehistoric Emo?

Okay, okay, I go to a lot of the so-called hipster shows here in SF (like tonight I'm going to see The Cinematics and Mute Math at Slim's), but I wouldn't consider myself a hipster-I can't stand their wanna be cool attitude, their "vintage clothes" bought new at Urban Outfitters (or the more expensive Anthropologie), and the vacant look in their eyes. That is until I read the description for a "Williamsburg Hipster" on www.yourscenesucks.com which describes exactly what I'm wearing right now-scary... I need to comer up with a new image...or at least a new wardrobe!

So what kind of hipster are you, if you dare to share?

Fun FYI: My dream man would be a "Prehistoric Emo" boy named Krishan Behl ;-). Anybody out there in the blogsphere who could hook me up? J/K.

Dude, you don't even know how many of those are roaming around Brooklyn. Seriously. Plus, desi is the new hipster, so...

    ;)

darling, you apparently want my students. i can hook you up if you want to break the law. otherwise, just plant yourself at 16th/valencia or in polk gulch and pounce on whichever of a thousand hipsters suits your fancy ;) let me know if you need a wingwoman, haha.

I definitely don't fall into any of those categories and am quite content that way. Since when is there no category for "Normal Dude?" Or "Jeans n' t-shirt guy?" My lack of hipster-ness is further brought to light by the fact that I haven't even heard of most of the bands that are listed on that link.

I guess when a guy hits his 30s and the bald spot starts to appear, there's no point in even trying to be hip.

Yeah, I remember all of them roaming around Brooklyn and they used to scare me...they still kinda do. Funny, hipsters actually kinda look alike on both coasts. But you are right, desi is the new hipster :-).

Honey, we have enough "hipster wannabe youth" coming into our offices looking for jobs and internships. Have tried the Polk pub crawl and the taqueria and cerveza run in the Mission but no such luck for moi. Don't be surprised if take you up on that wingwoman offer ;-).

    mediocre blogger:
Yea to uniqueness and not being influenced :-). I always thought that I was a normal girl, too, but trust me it scared me when I was a desi version of that hipster.
I am curious to see what the hipsters look like in DC (flying out there in a couple of hours) and I'm sure they'll be out in full force when I see Muse and My Chemical Romance on Friday night.

That site was scary! I don't relate to the hipster thing at all. I'm very retro and not in an ironic way :)

When I saw that, I thought, "Homeboy's been hanging out at Popscene..."

Yeah, the retro look is SO much cooler. Wish I could pull it off. :-)

Girl, I wouldn't be surprised if he was at Popscene. But then again Leisure is kinda turning into that, too :-/.

It's too bad they don't have a "Clueless" category or "Tragically Unhip" because I'd definitely qualify for that. I'm all for Prehistoric Hipsters though... where are they when you need them?

And the #1 Pete Wentz fan description cracked me up. I'm just saying.

Yea for Prehistoric Hipsters! And as for the uncool category, you're much more cooler than any one of us combined hun :-).
Yeah, the Pete Wentz #1 fan one cracked me up, especially since we have a lot of them coming into our offices, too. While I can't stand him, I have to give him props on his taste in men. According to some mag in the UK, his man crush is Christian Bale, and who can argue with that ;-).

The most vexing of all the hipsters: the deceased hipster

As for myself, I haven't updated my wardrobe since 1996. I don't care what anyone says, ripped jeans and faded GnR tees are timeless.

Thanks for stopping by-love your mixes (I have one of your cd's!)! Yeah, the "deceased hipster" is kinda scary, too. And you can never go wrong with GnR in my eyes ;-).

Yep Audrey, you know me too well. But I certainly have (bollywood) stars in my eyes, wouldn't you think ;-).

BrownSugar: Whoa. How did you get a copy of my mixes? Have we met? Did you go to a Dhamaal show last year?

In any case, I'm flattered to hear you liked the CD. My band, tentatively titled "Mariah Curry," put out an album recently - send me an email (it's in my avatar) if you want to hear some cuts.

Lastly: even though also I enjoy railing against hipsters, their vacant gazes, hilarious haircuts, and festishization of the painfully (and often rightfully) obscure, I happened to look away from the keyboard long enough to realize I'm sporting an overgrown bowl cut, specs, a vintage t-shirt, cuffed jeans, and tattoo-free arms.

I'm not hipster, hipster is me. I swear.

I feel ya. Yes, we did meet once at the SM meetup like last year or something and you were giving out your mixes (this was before I had a blog). Will be dropping you an e-mail soon enough! :-)
